The Most Anticipated and Exciting New SCI-FI Of 2016

We have a new year and some new SCI-FI (Science Fiction) shows/movies to watch in 2016. As part of my list, I have put together my top 6 SCI-FI shows/movies for 2016. You may like them or never heard of some of these shows. So explore what is going to hit our TV screen’s, or the big screen at a cinema near you.

The Most Anticipated and Exciting New SCI-FI Of 2016

These are the shows on my list.

The X-Files

David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson return the 1990’s hit show ‘The X-files’ which ended in 2002. The show is returning after a 13-year absence. The multi-award winning show is being brought back due to popular demand. The show’s creator, Chris Carter is retaking the helm as writer and executive producer. I am not too sure how the long the show will run or how many episodes will be aired, I am just glad it’s back after being a fan of the original show. The first few episodes discuss the torment which Moulder and Scully have faced since we last saw them. Scully is tormented by the child she had to give up for adoption to protect him/her from the FBI and their past. The first two episodes were broadcast in the USA on the 24 and 25th of January. They will be coming to the UK sometime soon.

The Shannara Chronicles

The Shannara Chronicles is based on a series of Novels by Terry Brooks.  These story in these TV show are based on the story of ‘The Elfstones of Shannara‘, which itself based on a magical tree called the ‘Ellcrys’. This Ellcrys tree stands as a sentinel to a horde of demons, which have been held captive in a demon prison. If ‘The Ellcrys’ tree dies the demon horde can escape. Manu Bennett (Arrow, Azog:- The Hobbit, Spartacus: War of the Damned) plays ‘Allanon’, a druid central to the Shannara books and chronicles. This is one show I would love to see. Having read the book, I am eager to watch how this story plays out on the TV. The show is only being aired on MTV for now, although it will be some time before other channels purchase the show.

Legends Of Tomorrow (The CW)

..If you are familiar with ‘Arrow‘ series and ‘The Flash‘ from the CW Network will recognise some of the cast for this brand new show. Also, if are familiar with Prison break, you also recognise two their former cast members. This show brings all the thug/villains and heroes from The Arrow and The Flash. The leader of this merry band of misfits is another familiar face. Rory from Dr Who (Matt Smith Dr Who era.), Arthur Darvill who is a time traveller, known as a time master in this tv show, (sounds familiar) to stem the flow of violence of an evil maniac in the form of Randal Savage. The show is currently being show only in the USA. Sky1 is expecting to air the show from March the 2016.

Captain America: Civil War

This movie picks up where Avengers: Age of Ultron left off. The Captain has been on the heels of the Winter Soldier (AKA Bucky Barnes) since he realises that he friend didn’t die in  WWII after all. The Captain has been looking for Bucky to bring him in, only other people have other idea’s. Members of Avengers are forced to choose sides, with IRON Man/Tony Stark on one side and The Captain on the other. Ordinary members of the public are unhappy with the destruction left behind by these superheroes, with the creation of the ‘Super Heroe Registration Act’. Shield is at odds with itself and must stop this war, although it doesn’t bode well for some of the Avengers. This is one movie I am eagerly waiting to watch and see who comes out alive. Either way, what lies in the aftermath of this war, may leave the Captain disgraced or dead. Time will tell.

Shadowhunters (ABC Family)

Based on the movie ‘Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instruments’. Shadowhunters is the TV dramatisation of the movie. The show is all about Clary who finds out her mother has been kidnapped. Clary must the delve into a murky world of demons and demon hunters. Clary discovers she has some weird powers and must find out for herself how to use them. The show has already started in the USA, but if you loved the movie, then the TV show should prove appealing.

Warcraft: The Beginning

The movie is based on the award-winning online game, ‘World of Warcraft’ by Blizzard. Warcraft explores how the orcs came to Azeroth and the fight between orc and humans. All those familiar with the Warcraft Lore have been waiting a long time for this movie. It is purported that characters from the game like, Durotan, Thrall, Medivh, Sir Anduin Lothar, King Llane and Adamant Wrynn III are reported to be main characters in the movie.

Rogue one is based on a Star Wars squadron who are tasked with obtaining the plans for the Empires dreaded Death Star. The Time period for this movie will be just before the New Hope: Episode IV. This movie is part of Disney’s timeline for Star Wars of side movies. The movie is set to hit movie theatres on December 16th, 2016. Let’s hope it lives up to the Star Wars saga and does well just like “The Force Awakens” did.

Well, there you have it. Here is my list of Sci-Fi tv shows and movies for 2016. If you agree or disagree, then please leave your comments below.

See I really wanted to watch shadowhunters but I am a bit put off by peoples reviews. Still I never take them seriously until I make my own mind up and I do love a good sci-fi.

I think the Shannara chronically sounds the most intriguing. I’m not sure about the X files come back. Sometimes you can have too much of a good thing. Better to stop when still good!

I have read most of the books, they are very hard to read just like LOTR was, but they are very good. I am happy they finally converted them to a TV show.

john Rhys-davies is one of the main actors for The Shannara Chronicles. He will feel that NZ is his second home. He has spent a lot of time there with LOTR. 😉 Lots of the other shows are going to be interesting.

I use to love The X files when I was younger can’t believe it was back in 2002 thought suddenly feel very old. I suspect this will be on our watch list. As for the others they are more up Hubby’s street than mine but he’ll love them Im sure.

I loved the X-files when it first came out. We are now 13 years on and the characters have totally grown. So far I get the feeling they sticking to the original line that the US Gov are covering things up. I can’t wait for other shows on the list.

I’m not a big Sci Fi fan, though we do need to get better at watching different programmes as we are watching the same trash on repeat! That said I used to love the X Files when I was younger and I didn’t realise it was returning, that one is one I will be sure to check out (if it ever makes it over to Dubai!!)

    • February 1, 2016 / 11:53 am

I am eager to see the X-files again. There are some really good shows scheduled for 2016. I need to research what else is due to come out this year. 😉
