Is The Lowepro 300 AW II A Good Camera Backpack?

What I love about the Lowepro 300 AW is, that I can get to my camera equipment without actually having to take the backpack completely off. As long as the waist strap is still connected, I can flip the backpack around to my front and access the zip which secures my gear safely in place.

What I especially love about this backpack and the reason why it this camera backpack suits my needs, is the fact that it is big enough for most of my gear. I also love not having to worry about my gear getting wet as my Nikon camera is totally protected from the elements.

Is The Lowepro 300 AW II A Comfortable Backpack?

When I first put the backpack on, I was surprised just how comfortable the Lowepro 300 AW II backpack really was. The back support has more padding for extra comfort. After all, you would be able to feel all of your gear pushing in to your back otherwise.

Lowepro 300 AW II Pockets

As I was walking and taking footage for this blog post, I wanted to create more of a realistic feel; taking advantage of a local historical beauty spot. Back to the Flipside 300 AW. There are two colours/patterns. Black or the Mica/Pixel Camo pattern. I guess its down to personal choice which one suits your requirements.

There is a small pouch which is concealed at the front which can hold some of your tripod legs, to hold your tripod more securely. At the top, there is a handle. Below the handle, there is another concealed pouch which contains the securing straps for holding your tripod safely to the backpack.

At the rear of the backpack, this the third and final hidden pouch for the AW (All Weather) covering. This will now completely conceal your gear, while also protecting your camera equipment from the elements. Any open zips will could compromise this AW covering. Once the weather subsides, you can put the AW cover away and you can get access to your gear once more.

  1. I recently invested in a more expensive camera and now spend my life worrying about carrying it safely so I can totally see the appeal of a bag like this. I love the way everything is visible when you open the bag rather than having to route through it from the top and the fact it (to my untrained eye) just looks like a regular rucksack!

    1. With a backpack like this, your gear will be safe. Lowepro have some of the best gear. Before I got this one, I had been looking in to different types of Backpack and Lowepro kept cropping up. A well made back from a renowned brand.

  2. John, that’s a great review of what looks like a well thought out camera bag. I particularly like how it opens at the back rather than the front. Definitely needed to protect expensive gear. I own no less than 3 Lowepro bags of various sizes but I’d happily trade them in for this as it seems like a great all-rounder!

    1. I thank you. I wanted to give this backpack justice by doing a full in-depth review. I know Lowepro are a renowned brand and are well known for their quality. For this camera backpack. It was something which came along at the right time.

  3. That’s one seriously awesome backpack – just enough room in all the right places for everything a photographer could need. Perfection! Great review!

  4. This looks really handy. My dad is looking for a new photography back pack, but he does have a lot of lenses so he’d have to choose wisely. His current one doesn’t seem all that comfortable (in my opinion anyway!) so it’s nice to see that this one’s comfy.

    1. Please do. I hope your dad gets the right camera bag. After all, replacing camera gear is getting more expensive when it gets damaged. With this backpack, he will know its in safe hands.

  5. Oh that’s impressive ! I like that you don’t have to take the bag off to get at your camera equipment . My mate is a photographer and he is always giving out stink about his bags ,I must show him this . It’s a great review , excellent photos as always!

  6. Oh, that really is handy! They thought of everything when designing it didn’t they? I’m more of a snap and hope kind of girl and I think this would be overkill for my iPhone. Haha.
I’m sure it’ll continue to get plenty of use with you though! 😀

    1. For the Iphone, yes this bag would be overkill. For my DSLR, this backpack is just what I needed. I had a canvas bag which had gone through the mill many times. Now with this new one, Lowepro have designed a backpack with the user in mind. A quality backpack from a quality focused brand. I am very pleased.

  7. I have a nce bridge camera but I never take it out. The bag is so bulky and uncomftable, I could do with a different type to carry it. Might be more inclined to use it!

    1. The Lowepro 300 AW is for bigger DSLR’s like mine, but there are others which will do the job just as good. I hope you find the one you need for your camera.

  8. It’s a good point you make – that it’s totally worth the small investment to properly protect all your expensive camera equipment. I don’t have as much lovely camera equipment as you, bu when I do, I’d definitely see the sense in a good bag.

    1. Thank you for your kind words. You are right. You do need a quality backpack if you want to protect your gear. The Lowepro 300 AW II certainly does that.

    1. It is on the pricy side but, as you mentioned, if you need something protect your gear, you have to make sure it does the job. Lowepro are well known for the quality and manufacturing excellence.

  9. Ive got a really cheap backpack which doesn’t do the job at all. In fact its stopped me taking out the DSLR because I am worried about it getting wrecked in the weather etc. The fact this is comfy too is a big plus. Will look into it more 🙂

    1. I had been some home work on which one I would invest in next. The Lowepro 300 AW or the 500 AW. They both do the same job, just the 500 has more storage space. When the 300 AW II came along, I wasn’t exactly going to say no.

      John M

  10. I think it’s very cool! the design and colour are both nice. And you can’t damage your stuff! My camera is always in my handbag but I would love something more professional

    1. This Backpack is worth every penny, especially when it comes to protecting your gear. I hope you manage to get something to better for your camera.
