Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat Review

On Tuesday the 29 of March, I had the chance to attend a really big theatre production, held at the Manchester Palace Theatre. ‘Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat‘. The music was arranged by Andrew Lloyd Webber while the lyrics were arranged by Tim Rice. I did not know what to expect but by the end of the show, I am glad my daughter and I got to go and see this fantastic show.

Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat Review - Outside the Theatre

Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat Review

The whole event was incredible for the opening night of the performance. The story was narrated by Lucy Kay, a brilliant soprano who introduces the audience to the characters of the show while being supported by a youth choir, who also did a fabulous job.

The X-factor 2008 winner, Joe McElderry, takes on the lead role for this show and he manages to pull one a very convincing performance. There have been many who have taken on this role and all of them have done amazing performances, with the likes of Donny Osmond and Jason Donovan, Joe McElderry has a tough act to follow.

The show begins with Act one, where Jacob gives his son Joseph, the coat of many colors. His brothers are none too impressed and seek cover up Joseph death. For the whole of the show, there are steps are used to give highs and lows to the story and is used to dazzling effect.

When Joseph is introduced to Potiphar and His wife (Tilly Ford). Potiphar’s wife becomes the Lady in Red and she performs a magnificent dance routine for the whole scene. I thought this scene carries the message of what she is trying to do to Joseph by trying to swoon Joseph and tries to get Joseph he feels is morally wrong. Although Joseph does nothing wrong, this lands Joseph in very deep trouble in eventually in prison. For the Final scene of Act One, Joe McElderry performs: ‘Go Go Go Joseph’. He manages to pull off an amazing song, to which the whole audience gave a standing aviation and were totally captivated by his performance.

Act 2

Act Two began with Pharaoh’s story and a giant mask of Pharaoh. Pharaoh says he has had a dream and story is continuously being narrated by Lucy Kay and the youth choir. When Pharaoh asks who can interpret his dream, the now freed butler remembers someone who can interpret Pharaohs dream. When Pharaoh he reveals himself, Pharaoh is portrayed by an Elvis impersonator. I thought this was an exceptional and smart idea. This part of the show is rather funny while the female dancers are love struck over Elvis/Pharoah. Elvis/Pharoah and performs the role of Judah (Emilianos Stamatakis), one of Jacobs sons. Emilianos Stamatakis performs many of Elvis’ old songs mixed in with the actual dream he gave to Joseph to interpret. Another part I love is when Joseph fails to hear the words of the dream the first around and he asks ‘The King/Elvis/Pharoah’ to repeat his words. Another funny part which I loved, is the scene where Joseph fails to hear the words of the dream, or song in this case and he asks ‘The King/Elvis/Pharoah’ to repeat his words. Again the whole dance routine was brilliantly choreographed and got the audience engaged. One of the female dancers screams while holding to Elvis’/Pharoah’s leg and the who cast jokingly look at her to say: “What are you doing you silly girl’; this made the whole audience laugh quite a bit.

Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat

I really enjoyed watching this musical and of all the shows I have ever watched, ‘Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat’ has to be up there at the very top of all time best shows. I found myself clapping with the audience, who were joining in at many stages of the show.Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, is definitely a family friendly show and there were many children in the audience watching and it is something I would take my daughter to see it again and again.

Near to the end, where Jacob discovers his son is alive, the scene takes the audience to a French Parisian theme. I thought this was very cleverly done, where all the songs were done with a French accent and made the whole audience laugh.

The end of the show was unquestionably phenomenal, the whole audience stood up and gave a full standing ovation to the final song, which was  ‘The coat of many colors’. Just when you think you can’t be any more dazzled by the performance, Joe McElderry asks the audience if they want one my song, to which the whole theatre erupts with a loud cheer and a big YES. Joe McElderry redoes ‘The coat of many colors’, where the show concludes on a very big standing ovation and cheers from the audience. It was a fantastic night, a brilliant show and absolutely amazing to watch. I would highly recommend this show to any family looking for a great night out.

Batman vs Superman Movie Review

Batman vs Superman Movie Review

I have been lucky enough to go and see the new DC movie Batman vs Superman. I went to the midnight showing and I was totally surprised by how many people had actually attended the same time slot.

I had been waiting for this movie for a long time and I just wanted to see if it could live up to the hype.

Sure enough, I was not left disappointed with lots of action to chew on, not including my nacho’s.

What better way to gain some fond memories from the movie is to come away with  a Slurpy cup. I got the Superman toppy just to be a day dreaming geek.

Batman vs Superman Movie Review

The movie starts very slowly, however, it does start to pick up after forty-five minutes. Before all the action, Lois Lane discovers a sinister plot to make superman out as the villain, rather than being the hero we need him to be. At this point although it is not made quite clear, Lex Luther is already up to mischief. The first time we see Lex, he wants access to General Zod’s body and the crashed spaceship which we see in the Man of Steel movie.

Bruce Wayne is really hacked off with Superman and the destruction he brought to Gotham and Metropolis. Bruce Wayne’s anger is slowly building to dangerous levels.

While at a gala hosted by Lex, Clark overhears Bruce Wayne’s butler, Alfred Pennyworth guiding Bruce down to Lex Luther’s server room. While at the Gala, here enters Wonder Woman’s alias Diana Prince (portrayed by the actress Gal Gadot).

Bruce wants to find out what the ‘White Portuguese” is and what is has to do with Superman. Eventually, Bruce Wayne discovers that the White Portuguese is a ship containing a mineral which can harm all Kryptonians, which means it can harm Superman.

Batman Vs Superman Trailer

Meanwhile, Lois Lane is still trying to uncover a conspiracy which may include the US Government. Lois seeks the help of General Swanwick, now a Secretary to the US Government administration. Gen Swanwick is reluctant at first but then starts to trust that Lois Lane may be on to something.

Bruce finds and gets a hold of the kryptonite which Lex has acquired. Bruce Wayne seems determined to weaponise the kryptonite into any type of weapon he can think of, including making a kryptonite gas grenade.

Bruce Wayne eventually decrypts the file he stole from Lex, which contains a list of Meta-Humans (DC Comics ways of saying: extraordinary people with power). Bruce learns of Diana Princes real identity along with The Flash, Aquaman and The Cyborg. These characters are building up for the Justice League movies with their own side movies.

Lead up to the Justice League

While Bruce and Clark are being forced to pit their wits against each other, Lex is scheming to build himself a monstrosity, this will conclude the end fight in dramatic style. Lex arranges to kidnap Clarks mom, Martha Kent and Lois Lane to draw out Superman. It works as Lois Lane is thrown off the top of Lex Corp Skyscraper. Superman flies in to save Lois just in the nick of time.

The fight commences between Batman and Superman. Batman unleashes his kryptonite gas grenades weakening Superman for Batman to begin his onslaught.

Superman takes quite a beating at the hands of Batman, just as the Kryptonite gas wears off; Superman tries to regain the upper hand and take control of the battle. Batman continues to use all his weaponry at his disposal and Superman suffers for it. The only person who can save Superman is Lois Lane, just as Batman tries to use a Kryptonite spear in an attempt to kill off Superman in one final act of vengeance.

Lois Lane gets there within a millimeter of Supermans life. Superman utters the name of his mother who just happens to share the same name of Bruce Wayne’s mother, Martha Wayne and Martha Kent. As Batman realizes they share a common interest, Batman gives in and stops his assault. Lois Lane saves the day.

Same Old Lex Luther

Batman has a new mission and heads off to save Clarks mother from a band of mercenaries who are answering to Lex Luther. Let’s just say that this one really big fight scene for Batman and he pulls it off by the skin of his teeth. The look on Lex Luther’s face when he find out that Batman and Superman have spoiled his plans. All is not done, as Lex manages to pull off one more wicked surprise.

Doomsday is born from the corpse of Zod’s body and the blood of Luther. This is one massive fight scene, with Wonderman entering the fight, giving the fans a glimpse of what she is capable.

Everytime Doomsdays is injured, he regenerates with more invincibility. Typically the US Gov try to nuke Doomsday, bad idea. While Superman is left to regenerate one his own after barely surviving the nuclear blast, Doomsday goes after Wonder Woman and Batman.

EPIC Doomsday Fight Scene

While Superman is left to regenerate one his own, Doomsday is chasing down Wonder Woman and Batman. Superman realises that the only way to kill Doomsday is with the same spear that Batman has built to kill Superman. The only problem being is that Lois Lane has thrown the spear into deep water.

Lois is trapped trying to retrieve the spear and Superman has to save Lois from drowning. Superman almost drowns trying to retrieve the spear but he fights through the pain barrier.

As Superman thrusts the spear deep into Doomsday, Superman is stabbed by Doomsday. Just like the comics and the cartoons, the world thinks that Superman is dead when in truth, his heart has only slowed down to properly regenerate. Superman will be back. The Justice League needs superman.

Bruce Wayne and Diana Prince team up to find the others in Lex Luther video archives. From that moment on, the Justice League is starting to build up into the team we know and love.

Batman Vs Superman Conclusion

Although it was a little slow at first, the movie does make up for what transpires later on in the movie. It takes one mega battle for Batman to realise he was wrong to try to kill Superman.

In the end, they all know each others secret identities and understand each others pains. This is one movie which does not disappoint.

The movie is a bit long at 2 hours and 35 minutes but is one big adrenaline ride. Some dream scenes with Batman hints of things to come by the way of Darkseid.

The first proper Justice League movie is going to be action packed. Batman Vs Superman was worth the wait. I can’t wait for the Blu-Ray version of the movie.

Star Wars Heir to the Jedi Review

I was recently lucky enough to review a new book about the adventures of Luke Skywalker from the Star Wars saga.

Star Wars: Heir to the Jedi is the latest Star Wars novel under the new Star Canon series.

The book was sent as a gift, so I could read then write a constructive review of the book.

This was my first book review and I am looking forward to being able to do more book reviews in the coming weeks and months.

What drew me to this book, was the fact that Luke had not yet mastered his Jedi powers.

I was interested to see how Luke was coping without a suitable Jedi Master to train him.

The evil Empire had hunted down and killed the remaining remnants of the Jedi.

Star Wars Heir to the Jedi By Kevin Hearne

Star Wars: Heir to the Jedi by Kevin Hearne (Arrow Books & Lucsfilm 2015: ISBN 9780099594277)

Star Wars Book Review Heir to the Jedi
Star Wars Book Review Heir to the Jedi

Kevin Hearne, the author of the Iron Druid Chronicles, writes his first book of the Star Wars franchise.

His book, ‘Heir to the Jedi’ explores Luke Skywalker’s life in the aftermath of destroying the Empires dreaded ‘Death Star’.

The book covers the time period between Episode IV: A New Hope and Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back.

Star Wars: Heir to the Jedi Book Review

As Luke has not yet fully mastered his Jedi powers, Luke struggles to come to terms with the loss of Obi Wan-Kenobi (aka Ben Kenobi), his trusted friend and mentor.

Luke never had a chance to get to know Ben, before Ben met his demise at the hands of Darth Vader while aboard the Death Star.

Luke has to find his own path without a usual Jedi Master to guide and to train him in the ‘Ways of the Force’.

All Luke knows is, Luke thought he heard Ben’s voice, just before Luke managed to destroy the Death Star in the Battle Yavin.

This is explained by Luke himself mid-way through the book.

Luke Skywalkers Adventures

The opening sentence says it all as far as Luke is concerned: “There’s no one around to answer all questions now that Ben’s gone”.

Luke knows it is his destiny to one day become a Jedi, but who, when and where is he going to his training.

Luke has a connection to his Father through his Lightsaber but is where the connection ends.

Luke knows the Force is real even if Han doesn’t yet believe in it.

The story is narrated through Luke’s experiences and his exchanges with the books characters.

Luke does not have many exchanges between Han and Chewbacca as they are off on their own adventures.

That is after losing all the money they got through gambling, which was a reward for returning Princess Leia to the Rebellion on Yavin 4.

Luke’s Second Lightsaber

Luke manages to acquire a second Lightsaber to study how they are constructed.

It highlights that Luke is still new to the Force and his inability to fully control or master his new abilities.

Luke even tries the same Jedi mind trick as Ben did back on Tatooine, by waving his hand and bending his will upon others.

Luke fails miserably to the amusement of his sidekick in this current adventure known as Nakari.

A wealthy female pilot and well-trained sniper.

After completing his opening mission, a debrief with Admiral Ackbar and Princess Leia; Leia asks a question where C3PO gives a comical response.

Leia asks, “3PO….What’s more likely, reliable cash flow for the Alliance or Han behaving rationally?”.

3PO responds, “While both have very little chance of occurring, Princess, reliable cash flow is is far more likely.”

This is typical of some of the Whitt you can expect from Star Wars characters, it is very good to see some of this humour being used.

The story does hold little comical gems and exchanges which keep the reader engaged.  However, if you are wanting the same type of pace in the story for the first original movie, Episode IV: A New Hope, then you are in for a disappointment. The Story is slow but does have excitement spread throughout the Book.

Luke Skywalker’s Love Interest

Luke has clearly inherited his father’s piloting skills and his reflexes, mainly because this is how Luke is clearly defying all the odds with sheer luck and skill as a pilot.

Nakari promises Luke that when they have completed their mission, she will help Luke in finding someone who can teach Luke in being able to properly study the ‘Force’.

Heir to the Jedi tries to fill in some the missing holes left behind, where ‘A New Hope’ ends and ‘The Empire Strikes Back’ begins.

The Book could have done with a little more action sequences.

However, as Luke is narrating the adventures himself; it makes the book more interesting to read and thoroughly enjoyable.

I would give this book 4 out 5 Stars and a ‘Must have Read’ book for Star Wars fan.

Heir to the Jedi Honest Review

I enjoyed this book and the seeing things from Lukes eyes and experiences.

Luke’s female companion on his mission and adventures, Nakari is wealthy but she is not one those spoilt children.

Nakari is able to manipulate her father, or so she thinks.

Luke is terrible flirt and Nakari knows it.

Nakari meets a grisly end and Luke is able to feel and sense her death.

By this time, Luke has at least mastered some of this new powers, but he can’t fully control them.

The book is well written and gives a different perspective of Luke Skywalker, of his life and character and how they seem to differ from the person we see in the movies.

For Star Wars Fans, this book is a must read.

The Most Anticipated and Exciting New SCI-FI Of 2016

We have a new year and some new SCI-FI (Science Fiction) shows/movies to watch in 2016. As part of my list, I have put together my top 6 SCI-FI shows/movies for 2016. You may like them or never heard of some of these shows. So explore what is going to hit our TV screen’s, or the big screen at a cinema near you.

The Most Anticipated and Exciting New SCI-FI Of 2016

These are the shows on my list.

The X-Files

David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson return the 1990’s hit show ‘The X-files’ which ended in 2002. The show is returning after a 13-year absence. The multi-award winning show is being brought back due to popular demand. The show’s creator, Chris Carter is retaking the helm as writer and executive producer. I am not too sure how the long the show will run or how many episodes will be aired, I am just glad it’s back after being a fan of the original show. The first few episodes discuss the torment which Moulder and Scully have faced since we last saw them. Scully is tormented by the child she had to give up for adoption to protect him/her from the FBI and their past. The first two episodes were broadcast in the USA on the 24 and 25th of January. They will be coming to the UK sometime soon.

The Shannara Chronicles

The Shannara Chronicles is based on a series of Novels by Terry Brooks.  These story in these TV show are based on the story of ‘The Elfstones of Shannara‘, which itself based on a magical tree called the ‘Ellcrys’. This Ellcrys tree stands as a sentinel to a horde of demons, which have been held captive in a demon prison. If ‘The Ellcrys’ tree dies the demon horde can escape. Manu Bennett (Arrow, Azog:- The Hobbit, Spartacus: War of the Damned) plays ‘Allanon’, a druid central to the Shannara books and chronicles. This is one show I would love to see. Having read the book, I am eager to watch how this story plays out on the TV. The show is only being aired on MTV for now, although it will be some time before other channels purchase the show.

Legends Of Tomorrow (The CW)

..If you are familiar with ‘Arrow‘ series and ‘The Flash’ from the CW Network will recognise some of the cast for this brand new show. Also, if are familiar with Prison break, you also recognise two their former cast members. This show brings all the thug/villains and heroes from The Arrow and The Flash. The leader of this merry band of misfits is another familiar face. Rory from Dr Who (Matt Smith Dr Who era.), Arthur Darvill who is a time traveller, known as a time master in this tv show, (sounds familiar) to stem the flow of violence of an evil maniac in the form of Randal Savage. The show is currently being show only in the USA. Sky1 is expecting to air the show from March the 2016.

Captain America: Civil War

This movie picks up where Avengers: Age of Ultron left off. The Captain has been on the heels of the Winter Soldier (AKA Bucky Barnes) since he realises that he friend didn’t die in  WWII after all. The Captain has been looking for Bucky to bring him in, only other people have other idea’s. Members of Avengers are forced to choose sides, with IRON Man/Tony Stark on one side and The Captain on the other. Ordinary members of the public are unhappy with the destruction left behind by these superheroes, with the creation of the ‘Super Heroe Registration Act’. Shield is at odds with itself and must stop this war, although it doesn’t bode well for some of the Avengers. This is one movie I am eagerly waiting to watch and see who comes out alive. Either way, what lies in the aftermath of this war, may leave the Captain disgraced or dead. Time will tell.

Shadowhunters (ABC Family)

Based on the movie ‘Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instruments’. Shadowhunters is the TV dramatisation of the movie. The show is all about Clary who finds out her mother has been kidnapped. Clary must the delve into a murky world of demons and demon hunters. Clary discovers she has some weird powers and must find out for herself how to use them. The show has already started in the USA, but if you loved the movie, then the TV show should prove appealing.

Warcraft: The Beginning

The movie is based on the award-winning online game, ‘World of Warcraft’ by Blizzard. Warcraft explores how the orcs came to Azeroth and the fight between orc and humans. All those familiar with the Warcraft Lore have been waiting a long time for this movie. It is purported that characters from the game like, Durotan, Thrall, Medivh, Sir Anduin Lothar, King Llane and Adamant Wrynn III are reported to be main characters in the movie.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

Rogue one is based on a Star Wars squadron who are tasked with obtaining the plans for the Empires dreaded Death Star. The Time period for this movie will be just before the New Hope: Episode IV. This movie is part of Disney’s timeline for Star Wars of side movies. The movie is set to hit movie theatres on December 16th, 2016. Let’s hope it lives up to the Star Wars saga and does well just like “The Force Awakens” did.

Well, there you have it. Here is my list of Sci-Fi tv shows and movies for 2016. If you agree or disagree, then please leave your comments below.

Exciting News I have been Published on The Mighty

I never thought I would have a story to tell, that was until I decided to write about my illness. I was born without a Thyroid Gland. A Thyroid gland is vital in the way your body breaks down and metabolises your food. If you have an under-active thyroid, you can gain too much weight; if your body cannot adequately break down your food on its own or without medication. For many years, I was a steady 12 1/2 stone ( 175lbs | 79.3kgs), but for some reason, when I reached the age of  32 my weight began to increase and I wasn’t unsure why. I was also having other issues like chronic fatigue and always sleeping more than I should.

I had been having issues with other thyroid symptoms, so as a result I had been requesting to be referred back to  an endocrinologist again through my GP.  I was being turned down at every request.

Exciting News I have been Published on The Mighty

The Mighty
The Mighty

Writing for the Mighty, was my way of venting frustration while highlighting what I have gone through with my illness; so others who have suffered from thyroid-related illnesses wouldn’t have to suffer in silence. Hypothyroidism has a lot of symptoms if left untreated, it can also lead to other serious illnesses, like a series of strokes and or death in extreme cases. I wanted to share some of the problems I have experienced with certain GP’s. Don’t get me wrong, there are some really hard working GP’s out there, just sometimes there are GP’s who think they know everything and are reluctant to pass on cases for second opinions. Because of my frustrations, I decided enough was enough and wrote an article for ‘The Mighty‘. Today they finally published the article and it has proved to be the best day I have had for a long time. Now I need a break with my health care treatment and get to see the right specialist. Fingers crossed.
